Impact

Numbers we can defend.

We would rather report four things we can trace than forty we cannot. Where a number comes from a partner, we say so.

03 Accountability

How we count.

A number is only useful if someone can challenge it. These are the three ways ours get challenged.

  1. 01

    Community scorecards

Each program is reviewed by the people it serves, using measures they helped define.

  2. 02

    Partner verification

Where a result depends on a partner, CAMFED, a clinic, a district office, they confirm the figure before we publish it.

  3. 03

    An annual public update

Published on this site: what changed, what did not, and what we are changing next.

70% → 1% Child marriage in Katiu Saa, through community by-laws

04 From the field

By-laws, not charity.

In Katiu Saa, the change did not begin with a donation. It began with a meeting: community leaders, women’s groups and our team looking at what was happening to girls, and deciding to write their own rules.

Those by-laws protect a girl’s right to stay in school. Child marriage fell from roughly 70% to 1%. Girls returned to classrooms, teenage pregnancy declined, and families began to treat school as the better investment.

  • By-laws written and enforced by the community itself
  • A school and a CHPS health compound built with the community
  • Girls re-enrolled with mentors who check in every term
